The Impact You'll Make in this Role The person hired for this opportunity will join the Medical Solutions Division (MSD) located in Brookings, SD. The person hired for this position will focus on post-launch product support for global healthcare products with an emphasis on supporting plant production operations. The position will focus on Surgical Drape products in our Perioperative business and will lead and support projects that positively impact product service, performance, and quality.
As an Advanced Quality Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Maintaining product design intent as components, processes, methods, and specifications change.
Identifying quality improvements through monitoring and trending of key quality characteristics.
Initiating and completing technical activities to improve products, processes, or systems using continuous improvement methods and tools, such as: Six Sigma, PPU (Product and Process Understanding), Design of Experiments, CQI (Customer Quality Index) and Quality at the Source.
Leading quality investigations, material disposition, and supply projects.
Leading change management activities.
Developing component specifications, product specifications, and associated test methods.
Maintaining and updating documentation.
Leading product testing to verify and validate design of products.
Demonstrating/documenting/maintaining product regulatory, ISO, and industry standards compliance.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
One (1) combined year of product, process, and/or quality assurance experience within a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering from an accredited institution
Three (3) years of medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry experience
Medical device and/or quality management system experience such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Quality System Regulation (QSR) and/or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 13485
Working knowledge of continuous improvement methods and tools
Strong project management skills
Able to thrive within a multi-functional product team (Quality, Manufacturing, Tech Service, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on technical writing
Able to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly
Able to work under only general direction while independently determining the approach to problems and solutions
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
