What you’ll do 

As the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Specialist, you will be the company’s subject matter expert on labeling compliance and FDA regulations.   You will be a vigorous proponent of regulatory compliance and will take a leadership role in identifying regulatory issues that have the potential to impact the development and marketing of KIND’s products.  You will work closely with our Research & Development (R&D) team, as well as partner with our Brand, Quality and Legal teams to support product development and help the company innovate in key areas.

You will…

• Ensure that existing and new products across the KIND family of brands comply with all laws, rulings and regulations affecting the use of ingredients, labeling, advertising and other marketing materials in the United States and Canada.
• Liaise with Quality, R&D, Legal and Brand teams regarding claims support for labeling claims, nutritional and ingredient copy.
• Provide guidance on health and nutrition claims and connect with subject matter experts, as needed, to support such claims.
• Prepare and submit required compliance documents to FDA, CFIA, and States.
• Assess industry best practices and apply as appropriate within the supply chain; coordinate with the Quality and Legal teams to provide risk assessments on company policies and labeling.
• Proactively monitor regulatory activities in the US and Canada; determine current and expected regulatory status of new ingredients and additives; research interpretations regarding the safety and acceptability of products and ingredients.
• Provide technical guidance to our R&D team on the use of new ingredients, from GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status to proper labeling, and support any advocacy that may be required to gain approval of new ingredients.
• Review supplier documentation to ensure claims support and compliance with regulatory standards; coordinate with third party certification bodies and provide any requested documentation to ensure approval.
• Participate on project teams, anticipate regulatory issues and work with legal counsel to clarify and resolve these issues.
• Perform other regulatory related assignments as needed.

You have...

• 5+ years of demonstrated experience reviewing labels and providing guidance to food companies on regulatory requirements. Must have comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated application of FDA regulations and other laws pertaining to the manufacture, labeling and marketing of food.
• Strong experience with product claim substantiation analysis for labels, advertising and other promotional materials.
• Strong experience in food science and technical expertise in ingredients and good manufacturing.  Manufacturing, quality, or operations experience a plus.
• A Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Science or related field.  Advanced degree is preferred.
• Internal FDA or other similar regulating agency experience is a plus.  Demonstrated professional network at FDA, other regulatory agencies, and with food science, regulatory and health and nutrition experts is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead others through influencing.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization and within different pieces of a complex supply chain.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Skills in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail.
