This position leads the Foundation’s policy agenda that supports efforts to find a cure for CF through research and drug discovery and development initiatives. The role will develop and implement the Foundation’s policy agenda to support cystic fibrosis research, and drug discovery & development at the federal level, including legislative and regulatory policy. This will include ongoing review and evaluation of our policy priorities, position development, and processes for analysis and CFF engagement, and advance its execution. This role will direct efforts to enhance federal support for cystic fibrosis research, streamline and improve drug discovery, and development and regulatory review.
This position will work closely with members of the Coverage & Access Policy Team to develop an integrated policy agenda, and with the federal government affairs team to implement it. The role will also work with the Foundation’s Research Affairs Department, the Communications Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the process to develop and maintain a formal posture for CF Foundation federal public policy on issues, including, but not limited to, medical research, drug development and review policies, and general legislation impacting health care and biopharmaceutical industry.
Serve as internal thought leader on legislative matters and strategic decision-making.
Identifies and oversees proactive initiatives to advance CF research, and drug discovery and development.
Collaborate with Foundation’s Research and Therapeutics Development teams to strengthen CF Foundation’s relationships with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other agencies as applicable.
Direct policy department work to monitor and conduct analysis of relevant legislative and regulatory policies in the area of medical research, and drug discovery, development and review.
Direct development of legislative language, regulatory comments and issue campaign materials, including fact sheets, talking points and issue briefs in relevant areas.
Direct creation of research policy and legislative information to website and other communication vehicles, such as national newsletters, board communications and annual report.
Direct develop of the Foundation’s federal public testimony, position papers, and correspondence and work with media on policy-related stories, as required.
Available for speaking opportunities.
Perform general administrative tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Previous experience in legislative or regulatory affairs, preferably in health policy in Congress, the Executive Branch or in a policy analysis role with a health care organization.
Minimum 8 years experience, 10 years preferred. A graduate or law degree would be desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and political processes.
Knowledge of general federal health policy laws, and research, food and drug regulations.
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent oral and written communications and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to interact productively with senior management and members of Congress and Administration.
Some travel may be required.
