The position of Senior Counsel, Litigation will manage assigned litigation related projects, including litigation brought by or against American Regent, and 3rd party litigation activities, as well as potential litigation. Essential functions of the position include effective management of outside law firms; coordination with insurers; internal communications, fact discovery, management of document production and witness preparation; and internally advising on litigation avoidance, strategy, and settlement. Position will conduct and participate in internal investigations. As part of a leanly staffed function, position may be assigned additional areas of support, and other projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage various types of party and non-party litigation projects, as well as potential litigation including, for example, product related litigation, employment litigation, personal injury, and contract disputes
Provide strategic advice on assigned matters
Effectively and efficiently manage outside litigation counsel within litigation budget
Handle internal discovery requirements
Conduct internal investigations or participate as member in investigations team
Issue and manage legal holds, and manage litigation calendar
Coordinate with insurers, and manage insurance coverage for Legal Department
Record management ownership.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor degree from top law school with license or ability to obtain license to practice in NYS
At least 5 years litigation experience required
Preference for at least 2 years in-house and top tier law firm experience
Strong preference for pharmaceutical industry experience
Experience with internal investigations preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work positively, collaboratively and diplomatically with executive management and business colleagues at all levels in a hands-on, fast paced environment
Positive and collaborative team member who will take on and ‘own’ projects as assigned within and outside of usual assigned areas to support lean Legal Department
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability to travel and work overtime as needed.
