KGI and AveXis are proud to announce a 24-month fellowship with AveXis designed to provide pharmacists with a broad exposure to the area of scientific communications. The two-year Medical Communication Fellowship provides an opportunity to learn the skills and experiences necessary to excel as a pharmacist in scientific communication, a key function in any biopharmaceutical company. The fellowship will be based out of the AveXis offices in Bannockburn, Illinois (suburb of Chicago, Illinois).
Objectives of Medical Communication Fellowship:
Develop strategic medical communication approach that will utilize a variety of channels to convey a consistent, clear, scientifically accurate message to support AveXis products in their brand life cycle
Learn about the development of a scientific communication platform and its utilization on internal and external materials
Learn about the process of publication planning, and data presentation at major congresses
Develop strong literature searching and critical thinking skills to analyze and understand competitive landscape
Support the development of scientific content for digital assets and booth resources
Collect and disseminate key insights from major congresses, symposia and stand along meetings
Analyze insights gained from medical affairs activities and recommend actionable initiatives (or measures) to internal stakeholders
Support the overall operational function of a medical communication department by participating in process improvement initiatives, tracking and reporting key operational metrics
Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as, US healthcare laws and regulations
Collaborate with cross-functional groups through AveXis
Learn and comply with regulations set by KGI, AveXis and national/global regulatory agencies
The AveXis-KGI Fellow will have academic responsibilities at the KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences which may include precepting students, publishing abstracts, posters, and representing the fellowship to pharmacy students
AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrohpy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration , or FDA , has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological disease, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.
The core responsibility of Medical Communication at AveXis is to generate and communicate clinical and scientific data as well as engage in scientific discussions with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, patients, and payers. By doing so, the overarching Medical Affairs division actively supports the development and delivery of therapies to patients with a high unmet need.
Education and Experience:
A successful candidate must be a PharmD graduate from an accredited institution. Substantial background knowledge in a related field is a plus. All candidates must have the right to work in the USA.
The Fellowship Candidate must have excellent communication skills, solid project management skills and strong problem solving skills. Together, the KGI-AveXis Fellowship candidate will be invaluable to the Medical Affairs Department and will prosper as a Medical Information Specialist.
