KGI and AveXis are proud to announce a 24-month fellowship with AveXis designed to provide pharmacists with a broad exposure to the area of HEOR & RWE, with an emphasis on health economics and outcomes research methodologies. The two-year HEOR & RWE Fellowship provides an opportunity to learn the skills and experiences necessary to excel as a pharmacist in articulating the value of innovative therapies that address important medical needs, a key function in any biopharmaceutical company. The fellowship will be based out of the AveXis offices in Bannockburn, Illinois (suburb of Chicago, Illinois).
Objectives of HEOR & RWE Fellowship:
Gain an understanding of a hands on experience in health economics and outcomes research methodologies
Evaluate a therapy's potential economic, clinical, and humanistic impact scientifically
Conduct evidence gap analyses and participate in the development of data generation strategies to communicate the value of products to internal and external stakeholders
Contribute to prospective and retrospective observational studies, cost effectiveness research, chart review studies, patient-reported outcomes research, and other studies with potential for publication
Conduct burden of illness studies and pharmaceoeconomic analyses for use by healthcare decision makers
Develop and maintain peer/KOL relationships for clinical input into HEOR studies
Communicate appropriate, quality, and timely responses to HEOR & RWE requests from healthcare providers and patients
Support the overall operational function of a HEOR & RWE department by participating in process improvement initiatives, tracking and reporting key operational metrics and ensuring inspection readiness
Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as, US and global healthcare laws and regulations
Collaborate with cross-functional groups throughout AveXis
Learn and comply with regulations set by KGI, AveXis and national/global regulatory agencies
The AveXis-KGI Fellow will have academic responsibilities at the KGI School of Pharmacy and Heath Sciences which may include precepting students, publishing abstracts, posters, and representing the fellowship to pharmacy students
AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currenlty in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In additions to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.
The HEOR & RWE Fellow at AveXis will have the opportunity to develop, execute, and communicate research strategies to help define the real-world value of AveXis' innovative gene replacement therapies, Key stakeholders include healthcare providers, patients, and payers. By doing so, the overarching Medical Affairs division actively supports the development and delivery of therapies to patients with a high unmet need.
Education and Experience:
A successful candidate must be a PharmD graduate from an accredited institution. Substantial background knowledge in a related field is a plus. All candidates must have the right to work in the USA.
The Fellowship candidate must have excellent communication skills, solid project management skills, and strong problem-solving skills. Together, the KGI-AveXis Fellowship candidate will be invaluable to the Medical Affairs Department and will prosper as a HEOR & RWE Specialist.
