The North American Meat Institute (NAMI or the association) is looking for an exceptional Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs. The successful candidate will interact with the association’s member companies, federal agencies, primarily the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and other United States Department of Agriculture agencies, and other related associations regarding regulatory policies and requirements.
Duties include assisting management with policy and leadership initiatives, analyzing promptly regulatory initiatives affecting member companies, and representing the association on food safety and regulatory committees and at government and industry events. Duties also include assisting the Foundation for Meat and Poultry Research and Education and NAMI’s education staff with planning and administering education and training programs.
Member Support: Provide timely assistance, analysis, and guidance to member companies regarding policy issues and regulatory compliance.
Committee and Task Force Management: Serve as staff liaison to appropriate NAMI committees, task forces, and work groups assembled to achieve association initiatives and ensure members are provided a forum for discussing issues and sharing best practices to establish industry-wide positions where possible.
Association Representation: Represent NAMI at external meetings, which include regulatory briefings, biosecurity workshops, trade association meetings, and national meetings. As necessary, create and lead coalitions involving other trade associations and agencies (including FSIS, Food and Drug Administration, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and the Agricultural Marketing Service) to address regulatory issues of concern.
Crisis Management Team: Provide coverage for immediate response to potential or actual crisis events related to regulatory actions, foodborne illness outbreaks, or biosecurity issues.
Staff Support: Assist other staff e.g., developing educational and training materials, publishing briefing materials for members and media, and communicating association and Foundation activities. Ensure communications regarding regulatory policy to Board of Directors, Executive Board, and members are accurate and timely.
B.S. degree or higher and significant food industry or regulatory policy experience necessary.
